The Space

Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies, our primary business and leaseholder of the Pier-41 space, uses a fraction of the entire warehouse footprint. Steve’s used to use the current gallery space as an office, but Steve and Samantha thought it to be too large for our actual needs. Samantha moved into a smaller office to be by herself, Steve moved his computer, napping space and electronics into the Skunkworks, and we were left with what has now evolved into our gallery/showroom.

We started by removing an interior partition wall, followed by opening the window behind the two vintage steel doors to make way for some custom “Mexican Doors”, opening out to an expansive view of New York Harbor. The Saltillo tiles with Talavera accents and the exposed brick wall have created a warm feel and perfect backdrop for the natural dyed Zapotec weavings from Casa Cruz.

Large wood planks and shelving supported by driftwood logs washed up to the Red Hook shoreline, keep the natural feel to the gallery. The interior has finally come together but is still changing as we seek to find more artisans who’s work we can display, and even as we’re planning on officially opening our doors, the space is still taking shape.

If you find yourself strolling around in Red Hook, we invite you to pop-in for a weekend visit, or if you care to plan a visit during the week, please contact us so we can make arrangements.
