Martha Helena Nares

Posing with Catrinas

Marta Elena Nares Heredia, a young self-taught artist living in the state of Michoacán has developed a style all to her own. We feel that Helena will flourish and grow as an artist. In her own words (poorly translated by the way) Helena puts it this way…

“I love my culture and my our indigenous people. I began to learn from them and their craft techniques over the past 7 years specializing in the Catrina figure, as the Mexican death, the giver of life and death, the beginning and the end. As a result I learning to take every moment as if it were the last. As a reminder of all the meaning and beauty in my fleeting life, I fell in love with the Catrina, and now incorporate this into my work, which I absorb most of the day. All this in order not to lose our traditions and our art, I am the bearer of a rich cultural and unique artistry.”

Marta’s pieces are extremely delicate, and as with all of the works here at Manos, we do not take internet orders. We welcome you to visit us and see the work of this fabulous young artist. Also, contact us if you would like any detailed information regarding Marta’s work, we can send you additional images, dimensions etc.
