About Us

Manos de Méxicanos (By Mexican Hands) is a new gallery of Mexican Folk Art located on the Brooklyn Red Hook waterfront. Founded by Steve Tarpin of “Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pie” and his wife Victoria, the mission of the new endeavor is to build a link between the people of New York and renowned and young artisans of Mexico that are striving to carry on ancient artisan traditions established generations ago. As a result, Steve and Victoria hope that through the permanent display and sale of their work, more resources can be driven to artisan communities currently threatened by struggling local economies. This new business is indeed a labor of love and inspired by their extensive travel throughout Mexico and Victoria’s own Mexican roots.

For any serious collector of fine Mexican Folk Art, Manos de Méxicanos is working diligently to offer a permanent place for museum quality pieces from some of Mexico’s preeminent artisans, as well as works from lesser known artisanos who are preserving dying traditional forms of Mexican Folk Art. We invite you to look around or visit us at our gallery located on the Brooklyn Waterfront.

We do not offer internet sales nor do we plan to. We believe that these pieces need to be seen up close and personal. We have not started this gallery for the sole purpose of sales, yet to bring these works to the public to be seen. If you see any piece in particular that you are interested in, please contact us for detailed information or additional images. If there is a particular artisan whose work you are interested in, we invite you to contact us. We are open to any ideas or assistance offered in this endeavor, as well as working in conjunction any other entity who shares our goals.

We are currently residing in Oaxaca but but have been traveling throughout Mexico, recently wrapping up from  road-tripping in the state of Chihuahua, Michoacan, Nayarit and Zacatecas (and as many points in-between) in a continued effort to bring more work back to Brooklyn when we return in late May or early June . In the meantime our gallery can be accessed by contacting Samantha at Steve’s Authentic .
